Birth of Neo Diary
And just like that, with Claude(or should I say, Fable 5), Kylie Minogue on repeat and an undisclosed amount of coffee, I got myself my own diary* over the weekend. No likes, no comments by design and volition, but I do intend to use this site as a neo diary. There are a few reasons for creating it:
Habit
We millennials used to write and read long texts because we wanted to. It was a favourite pastime for many of us, our attention span was longer than 5 minutes and we were able to retain information for much more than 5 minutes.
Necessity
However, when social networks and chat apps became widespread, our posts started shrinking and eventually shrank to 0 characters. So did our attention span and information/memory retention period. With the arrival of the AI-the-Almighty it turned out that now you don’t need to write anything at all, everything will be written for you, in any style, in a matter of seconds, and better than if you did it by yourself. However, without practice any skill will be lost in not such a long time. What if one day AI is gone, and now you suddenly need your writing, coding and translation skills back? So, this blog is basically an attempt to retain the above skills while having fun, because, as a millennial, I do still enjoy blogging.
Software development practice
Now I have a whole code base, written by AI, which allows both testing of machine-written code quality and dealing with possible bugs in production conditions.
Writing/translation practice
This is a blog in 5 languages I know(levels differ drastically though). I do intend to use AI for translation when I don’t have enough time or when translating to a language I don’t know well enough, but I intend to carefully read the translation and adjust it if necessary, which is still better practice than none. My second goal is also to assess the quality of AI translation, to check if it will be able to convey all the nuances correctly (not sure if it knows Olbansky, for example, and if it does know it, how is it going to translate it into, say, Japanese).
*diary, here and in all consequent posts, refers to the blog platform “diary.ru” (which is now being hosted on a different domain).
The scariest moment is just before you leave the save room.
